The Challenge

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government sought plans to provide flood protection and to restore and maintain diminishing wetlands in an effort to keep the people of Terrebonne Parish dry and transform a once-dying Lake Houma into a healthy wetland environment.

The Solution

TBS provided preliminary and final design plans for the project; obtained necessary permits and land rights; prepared specifications; and administered the following improvements: obstruction removal, channel excavation, channel widening, levee and bulkhead construction, and the assembly of two pump stations. The 18,000-acre project includes over 10,000 acres of wetlands designed to serve as reservoirs for storm water run-off and the creation of a 32-acre freshwater marsh as mitigation.
