Pump Station Monitoring System wins 2019 Engineering Excellence Award
T. Baker Smith wins 2019 Engineering Excellence award in the category of building/technology systems along with two other honor awards in the categories of transportation and water resources.
HOUMA, LA – T. Baker Smith (TBS) was recently awarded the 2019 Engineering Excellence award for its innovative Pump Station Monitoring System in the category of building/technology. In coastal Louisiana, the challenges faced by communities are often multi-faceted. T. Baker Smith along with the North Lafourche Levee District (NLLD) continues to work to improve drainage and enhance flood protection for approximately 65,000 residents north of the Intracoastal Waterway in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, serving approximately two-thirds of the parish’s population.
Managing pump station infrastructure has been an ongoing challenge as the process depends upon human intervention and Parish personnel. TBS worked with NLLD to design, build, and install a monitoring system, solving the data problem. A unique combination of technology was used to build the physical station, as well as the supporting cloud infrastructure, providing a user-friendly way of accessing critical data. The pump station monitoring solution designed for NLLD solved the challenges and difficulties in managing the District’s many forced drainage areas, and the innovation also provides a new and effective way for the District to manage their systems into the future.
T. Baker Smith Pump Station Monitoring System is now eligible for “the one and only” 2019 Grand Conceptor Award, which will be announced on Thursday, November 12th at the EEA Awards Gala in Baton Rouge, LA.
