In 1936, company founder T. Baker Smith designed the first paved street in Houma, Louisiana. Since then, our teams of registered civil engineers, engineering technicians and CAD operators have managed many major local public works projects, as well as residential and commercial developments.

Roads, bridges, drainage systems, landfills, subdivisions, pumping stations and floodgates throughout South Louisiana have been designed by T. Baker Smith, Inc. (TBS) and our expertise has grown along with the region we serve. As efforts to preserve Louisiana's barrier islands and coastal marshes have increased, we have expanded our services and resources to meet this demand. Subsequently, TBS has become a leader in the design and construction of large-scale hurricane protection, flood protection and coastal restoration projects.

For each of these projects, TBS is capable of managing your project from planning and design, through construction and operation. This includes permit coordination, right-of-way acquisition, feasibility reports, preparation of documents necessary to obtain public funds, and research and analysis of special design features. Our engineering staff also assist clients with advertising and evaluation of construction bids, the awarding of construction contracts and contract administration, not to mention providing on-site quality assurance supervision during construction.
