Kenneth Smith, on behalf of T. Baker Smith, Inc., presented Drs. Terry Dantin and Balaji Ramachandra of Nicholls State University with five copies of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' Geometric Design of Highways and Streets standards book. These books will be used to teach Geomatics courses 301 & 303, Route and Construction Survey. The class teaches the fundamentals of highway and municipal street design and construction from the assembly of area information to the design and layout for line and grade. In the lab portion, students are taught the field applications for laying out preliminary routes, horizontal and vertical curves, line and grade, slope stakes, and elements of building construction.
T. Baker Smith, Inc., donated monies to the Nicholls Engineering Technology Society (NETS), which purchased a spot on the NETS tee-shirts. These tee-shirts were sold as a fundraiser for the quarter-scale tractor the members of NETS build annually. The tractor must conform to strict standards and achieve high performance in the areas of pulling and maneuverability. Building the quarter-scale tractor introduces students to all components of Manufacturing Engineering: design, testing, fabrication, marketing, and planning for mass production.
