T. Baker Smith, Inc. (TBS) is proud of the volunteer efforts of all of our team members that make our home community a better place to live and work. As a company, we have adopted the following community partnerships:
Partners in Education - Pointe-Aux-Chenes School
PARTNERS IN EDUCATION has direct links to local school districts and community leaders throughout the country. Through thousands of grassroots member programs, PARTNERS IN EDUCATION connects children and classroom teachers with corporate, education, volunteer, government, and civic leaders. These community partners play significant roles in changing the content and delivery of education services to children and their families. TBS is dedicated to building our community. By getting involved in this program, we hope to motivate success in each child we mentor to.
Adopt-A-Family Program
The mission of Adopt-A-Family is to locate donors from the community to provide Christmas presents for children in needy families. Catholic Social Services, located in the Houma area, introduced TBS to this program in 1999.
Good Samaritan Food Bank
Terrebonne Parish's only food bank falls under the umbrella of Catholic Social Services, but all congregations help out. The Food Bank has assisted over 32,000 families since its inception in May 1985, usually averaging between 150 and 175 families a month. Food Bank recipients are required to show proof of income, proof of monthly bills, and provide a Social Security number. In turn, families receive enough food to last for two or three weeks.
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. The Society is the largest source of private, non-profit cancer research funds in the United States. Through its advocacy program, the Society educates policy makers about cancer and how it affects the individuals and families they represent.
United Way of South Louisiana
Through funding and community building efforts, United Way is an integral part of the nation's human services system. United Way is, in effect, partners with government in the uniquely American blend of public and private funding and service delivery. Working with Congress and the Administration, United Way of America will promote policies and programs to improve human services and enhance community building efforts.
Big Brothers / Big Sisters Program
Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Southeast Louisiana is part of a nationwide, youth-serving organization with over 95 years experience in the field of mentoring. The organization is committed to helping young people cope with the challenges of growing up and making the sometimes difficult transition into adulthood. Many children are vulnerable to the negative influences of their environment. They need someone to look up to, someone to confide in, someone to have fun with -- a special someone who can respond to their unique needs.
Terrebonne General Medical Center Blood Bank
Instituted in 1984, the Terrebonne General Medical Center Blood Assurance Plan is a non-profit community service sponsored by Terrebonne General Medical Center. Its purpose is to supply the hospital with an adequate supply of quality blood and blood components donated by volunteer donors in the Houma area to serve patients who require blood transfusions. To accomplish this goal, membership is offered in the plan to provide protection for those who participate. When 25% of the employees of a company donate one pint of blood a year, each member of the group, their spouse, and all dependents are covered for that year.
MacDonnell United Methodist Children's Services, Inc.
The mission of MacDonnell United Methodist Children's Services, Inc. is to provide clinical, educational, and spiritual care for children, youth, and adults who need the healing ministries offered by our agency. TBS team members provide gifts for children at Christmas, as well as assistance throughout the year.
The Bunkhouse Shelter
TBS and its team members donate food to shelter residents for a Thanksgiving meal each fall, as well as food and money for provisions throughout the year.
