Sugarwood Subdivision is a 70-acre single-family residential development encompassing three development addendums. It is located along LA Highway 311 in Houma, Louisiana, in the fastest-growing region of Terrebonne Parish. Amenities include paved streets, curbs and gutters, surface drainage, along with parish water, sewer, and natural gas systems. Sugarwood Estates is a 50-acre single-family residential development located adjacent to Sugarwood Subdivision. It features larger lots with water, sewer and gas, paved streets, aggregate shoulders, and open ditches.
The T. Baker Smith, Inc. (TBS) team has performed a comprehensive list of professional surveying and engineering services for both Sugarwood developments, expected to undergo further development in the future. Services began with preliminary layout and design and continued with field surveys, utility engineering, drainage analysis, construction approval, and record drawings, all in accordance with parish regulations.
The greatest challenge posed to the TBS team in the Sugarwood developments was drainage. The solution was to design a reservoir in the form of a man-made lake on the property to capture run-off from the development. Excess water is then drained to outfall canals to the rear of the property.
